Progressive Peacemakers

I believe this life is all about learning how to love. We need to value relationships and make every effort to maintain them instead of discarding them whenever there is a rift, a hurt or a conflict. I recently found myself having to make a lot of effort to restore a relationship but I am very glad I took the time to do so.

For this reason a significant amount of the scriptures are devoted to teaching us how to get along with one another. I believe our ability to get along with others is a mark of spiritual maturity. God wants his family to be known for our love for each other.

Here’s my not so humble opinion: If you really want blessings and peace in your life and you want to be known as a child of God, you must learn to be a peacemaker. Jesus said, "God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God"

Notice Jesus didn't say, "Blessed are the peace lovers," because everyone loves peace. Neither did he say, "Blessed are the peaceable," who are never disturbed by anything. Jesus said, "Blessed are those who work for peace"--those who actively seek to resolve conflict. (Phil’s interpretation)

Peacemakers are rare because peacemaking is hard work, but because you and I were formed to be a part of God's family, peacemaking is one of the most important skills you can develop.

Unfortunately, most of us were never taught how to resolve conflict, so we try to avoid it but remember....relationships are always worth restoring!

“... if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you . . . agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends” (Philippians 2:1-2 Msg).

Is there a relationship in your life that needs to be restored? What are your thoughts about this subject?

This is a such a meaningful post. How often I have returned to this passage in difficult times. Here we have one of Jesus' richest teachings about Love and Compassion in the face of life's challenges. Thank you for bringing our attention to this, helping us focus on things that are most helpful as we are all learning and growing here. Peace and continued good things for you, Dear One.

Sincerely,
Diane
